Trivia:

Burtonwood service station is built on an old airfield that had 18,000 stationed there at one time in the Second World War, it was the largest military base in Europe.

"East Road" writes:

"Once an award winning service area, Burtonwood must be one of the most unloved areas by both it's opperating company and it's users.

Visit it today and you will find half of it boarded up toilets with half painted doors and plaster crumbling off the walls. The only good thing about Burtonwood is that you can get off the motorway here and have Sweedish meatballs in IKEA !!

This is a Service area to be avoided. It is in desperate need of renovating if not demolishing and starting again

I remember one of the early managers of this site Miss Greaves and I am sure it would break her heart to see
this site now."

Rumours that the westbound side has been sold off to M&S and the eastbound side will see further development.

Selection of comments received it is my favourite MSA in the country 18/07/2005 14:29:54
This service area has the best CB shop I have seen for a long time. I also met some radio hams here 06/08/2005 15:21:35

So, lets say you buy 4 coffees and 4 donuts. Comes to almost £12. You remember to bring your own stuff next time!!! 11/02/2006 15:47:41
All change at the good ship Charnock, still too few staff at peak times, and morale looks very low at the moment, I wonder why that could be..... 15/02/2006 18:46:13

i always like to stop here om the way up to scotland, good restaurants and shops 30/03/2006 15:57:58
The signage to the toilet is dismal. The signs are pink and have very silly & confusing men/women graphics. I witnessed several men going into the womens toilet (by Accident!) Otherwise its not bad at all. 02/05/2006 19:01:45
We love Forton! Long may you rule supreme in your mushroomlike wonderosity! 18/11/2006 21:41:22
Unfortunately, its a bit too small and cramped for me - I prefer more spacious MSAs like Donington Park at Juction 23a (just a few miles north!) 06/12/2006 19:12:34
easily the best services. worth a visit even if no need to visit. xlnt farm shop too 11/01/2007 23:40:39

Toddington is the best service station ever, very clean and the food is not pricey! 09/04/2007 08:42:27
The building is a typical hut but very clean inside, the toilets were easy to find and also clean. Food is as always expensive. What is it about service station car parks that they have to make them so confusing to get out of??? 10/05/2007 13:29:51
Stafford North and south excellent for excersising the dog, plenty of space. 18/07/2007 10:51:37
Best setting of a MSA in England. I always stop at both Tebays to shop at the superb farm store. When travalling between Stranraer and Birmingham 27/01/08 28/01/2008 21:30:16
If you want a parking ticket here is the place to get one, avoid like the plague 28/03/2008 22:00:56
