November 2006 -If you saw "The Money Programme" you would have
seen the worst excuse for a Jacket Potato and Beans you ever saw, served
at Sandbach. On the other hand, there are some really nice meals to be
had if you know where to stop.
So, the idea of this new section is, Get your camera phone out, take
a photo of your meal (before you eat it!), send it in, tell us what it
is, where you had it, how much it cost, did you like it etc. and we'll
post it up here.
To submit your entry, attach picture and email to
contact@msatrivia.co.uk, then check back here soon as we put the entries
up!

picture of my brother's breakfast, which he had a Membury
Eastbound services on Saturday 19 November 2006. |
At a cost of £7.98, he
was not totally impressed. First off they'd run out of beans
completely (none on site at all), secondly the tomato was vile.
He was suspicious of the square deep-fried sausage meat but it wasn't
as bad as it looked and the egg was served in that state!
I plumped for bacon egg and toast because of the price, and it was
better than I expected. We didn't have enough time to eat
it all as the coach was due to depart so he took the hash browns
with him, lest waste the money! |

This entire meal (hot sausage roll and coffee) cost
£5.25, which is a £1.05 saving as part of a special offer.
As far as value for money, even with the offer, £4.20 for the
baguette is quite steep considering I can get half a baguette with
2 sausage, 2 egg, 2 bacon and onions for the same amount else where.
And why can you no longer get "coffee"? This is an "Americano"
at £2.10 (ie just coffee, add your own UHT milk); just another
way to push up prices. I would have preferred bacon but they had run
out when I ordered but brought out fresh while my baguette was being
made, although it was quite good and filling.

Is my Breakfast roll - choose any 4 items for £4 something. I found this excellent, although the choice is limited - it's hard to see how you can put beans, mushrooms or tomatoes into a bap (I had sausage, egg, bacon and hash brown). Although you only got 1 of each item, this was more than adequate, filling the roll considerably and filling me up too. In all I'd consider this more value for money than the breakfast. |

Is my brother's breakfast for £5.99. This was a 7 item breakfast, though he had to start eating it in the queue because the level of service was appalling - a very long wait for beverages and payment mean it was almost cold. Added to this on the return journey we found that all food outlets (including Burger King and KFC) had stopped serving by 8.45. Aside from the temperature, this was one of the better breakfasts we've had at a service area. |
